O mundo está em transformação. Essas mudanças, que afetam o nosso cotidiano, encontram uma expressão na Série “Colônia”, de Mateus Morbeck, que apresenta o isolamento gerado pelo novo coronavírus, pela Covid-19 e pela pandemia sob uma perspectiva da construção de uma visualidade. O trabalho consiste na criação de imagens que partem de autorretratos escaneados, aos quais são sobrepostas manchas aleatórias surgidas quando “comprovantes de consumo” são esterilizados com álcool a 70%. Surgem grafismos, letras e marcas que evocam tatuagens ou escarificações, cicatrizes no corpo feitas em algumas culturas com instrumentos cortantes. O artista cria assim imagens de novas peles em si mesmo. As faces apresentadas são uma poética expressão do “novo normal” pós-pandêmico, ou seja, um ser que sai com marcas, mas que pode se reinventar para construir o futuro.

The world is changing. These changes, which affect our daily lives, find expression in the “Colony” series, by Mateus Morbeck, which presents the isolation generated by the new coronavirus, by Covid-19 and by the pandemic from the perspective of the construction of a visuality. The work consists of creating images based on scanned self-portraits, which are superimposed on random spots that appear when “consumer vouchers” are sterilized with 70% alcohol. There are graphics, letters and marks that evoke tattoos or scarifications, scars on the body made in some cultures with sharp instruments. The artist thus creates images of new skins in himself. The faces presented are a poetic expression of the post-pandemic “new normal”, that is, a being who leaves with marks, but who can reinvent himself to build the future.
